About Us
My name is Tea and I am the owner and founder of Tea's Crafting Cove. I've been an artist for over 16 years and have a specific passion for fiber arts (mainly crochet, punch needle, and sewing). I also love alternative fashion and all things nerdy.
Tea's Crafting Cove was born for a couple of reasons: I was having a hard time finding fashionable items that fit my identity and aesthetic, and a desire to do my part to move away from fast fashion.
Our Commitment to Ethics and Sustainability
This picture was taken during my university years while I was an intern studying human impacts on the environment in my home state of Colorado. My degree is in Ecosystem Science and Sustainability and I've spent much of my time in college researching the environmental and human rights impacts of fast fashion. The findings are bleak, especially as crochet has been more integrated into the fast fashion world.
Our steps to combat these ethical and sustainability issues:
- we reuse as much as possible! Even things such as quilt batting, fabric scraps, and yarn scraps are repurposed into stuffing for plushies. Otherwise, our fiberfill is recycled polyester. Additional materials that are no longer needed are donated to art reuse stores.
- we have a small scale team and everything we make is produced in the US which reduces carbon emissions between manufacturing and processing facilities (and almost everything is made in house! Anything that isn't has been made at a thoroughly researched, US based manufacturer)
- as we are a small business, we use a made to order system and sell oopsie products at a discount whenever possible to avoid waste
- No AI EVER! AI facilities are a major drain on resources like water and are a huge source of carbon emissions due to the huge amount of power they require! Additionally there are a lot of ethical issues such as the plagiarism of real artists and the loss of jobs due to AI.
- we regularly donate to charities and are very transparent about when these launches happen and when we donate! Some previous charities have included the Trevor Project and the Trans Continental Pipeline, and we hope to expand our donations in the future!
